Susan G Komen Training Diary: Part 1

May 2, 2011

If you’ve ever stepped foot in Avanti, you will have noticed that there are always some pretty serious shoes worn in the salon.  Whether they be six-inch platforms, a delightful pair of oxfords, or a knee-high boot, we all love our shoes and think of footwear as one of our favorite accessories.

That being said, a group of us from the salon have signed up to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and, over the course of three days, we will be walking 60 miles in an effort to support a terrific organization that funds Breast Cancer research and gives assistance to women battling the disease.  Our team is hoping to raise (at least) $10,000 for the cause, and we’re excited to train for the event and give a substantial contribution to a great cause.  Due to our involvement, we’ve had to focus on our fitness and sacrifice our fashion sense- yes, we’ve had to start wearing athletic shoes!

The shoes above are my new babies (Mizuno Wave Runners- I lovelovelove the pink detailing, which is so perfect for the 3-Day!).  I went to Marathon Sports and was pleased to find a shoe that fits perfectly and keeps my feet comfortable mile after mile.  On days when I wear my shoes on my walk to work, I walk faster and have a little extra bounce in every cushioned step!  So far, I’m really enjoying my training, but I haven’t started the looooong walks yet, and am a little nervous for the three days of super intensive walking that await in July.

Look forward to more training news as the walk looms closer- we’ll be doing some fun group walks, some photo walks, and maybe even some special events in the salon!

If you’d like to donate to our team, you can do so HERE.  Just search for team Avanti!  We’re so thankful for any and all donations, and are so excited to share our journey with you!
