The Art of Hair

April 28, 2011

As we all know, creating great hair truly is an art, whether the medium be the follicle or the tip of a pen!

A couple days ago, I stumbled upon the work of Montreal-based artist Erika Altosaar and was completely transfixed by her artwork in L’Etranger.  How neat are these portraits without faces?  I want to transpose my face onto each drawing and try the hair on myself (this fantasy of mine dates back to my childhood obsession with Legos, I think)!

How lovely are her illustrations of hair? She gets the weight and movement just right, and the strands seem to fall so naturally.  I love love love it!  Don’t you?

p.s. We love it when clients bring in hand-drawn pictures of how they want their hair to look!  We have so many talented clients, and some of their drawings are astoundingly creative and downright good!  People, keep ’em comin’!
